Devlog #1: Welcome to Card's Tale!

Hello, adventurers!

Welcome to the first official devlog for Card's Tale, our roguelite deckbuilding game where you embark on a quest to dethrone the king. We're thrilled to share the early stages of our journey with you and give you a glimpse into what we're working on.

Concept and Inspiration

Card's Tale is inspired by classic roguelike games and modern deckbuilders. My goal is to create a game that combines the strategic depth of card games with the unpredictable excitement of roguelikes and real time battle, so there's no turns  and you will not wait for your time to play...The only thing which prevents you to play your next card is your mana points .
As a roguelite game, each playthrough will offer a unique experience, full of challenging encounters and tough decisions.

Gameplay Overview

In Card's Tale, you'll traverse a procedurally generated map events, filled with various paths, each presenting different possibilities. Your deck of cards represents your abilities and resources, and you'll need to use them wisely to survive and progress.

Key Features:

  • Procedurally Generated Events: No two playthroughs are the same. Each journey through the kingdom is unique, with different paths, encounters, and challenges.
  • Deckbuilding Mechanics: Collect, upgrade, and customize your deck. Discover new cards and synergies as you progress.
  • Strategic Combat: Use your cards to battle foes, defend yourself, and overcome obstacles. Every second matters.
  • Resource Management: Manage your health, energy, and other resources carefully. Decisions have consequences.
  • Boss Fights: Face off against powerful bosses, each with unique mechanics and challenges.
  • Real Time Battle: There's no turn! Everyone is doing their best attacking all the time and you will provide better abilities, skills, spells and traps for your hero. Think wise on your actions or your hero may die anytime.

Current Progress

I've been at a hard work laying the foundation for Card's Tale. Here's what we've accomplished so far:

  • Core Mechanics: Basic deckbuilding and combat systems are up and running. Players can draw cards, play them for various effects, and end their turn.
  • Map Generation: The procedural generation system is in place, creating diverse and interesting maps for each playthrough.
  • First Set of Cards: I've designed an initial set of cards with various abilities, including attacks, defenses, and utility effects.
  • Basic Enemy AI: The first enemies are programmed and ready to challenge players with different attack patterns and behaviors.

What's Next?

I'm focusing on refining the gameplay mechanics and adding more content. In the coming weeks, I plan to:

  • Enhance  UI: Improve the game's look and UX for a more intuitive interface.
  • Implement More Encounters: Add a variety of events and encounters to keep each playthrough fresh and exciting.
  • Polish Combat: Fine-tune the combat system to ensure it's challenging but fair.
  • Bug Resolution:  There are many bugs on battle and on cards usage. Here is where I'll be focusing much more. So the cards and battle will be working with no issues and we can feel a little more how's the game going.
